OUR 2015 TEAM
PRESIDENT - Lydia Feeney
As President you can make your long and short term visions for how you want MADSOC to grow come to fruition. You will be in control of making sure your team are doing their allocated jobs but also in charge of making sure that your team are working together and enjoying themselves. You will also be in charge of writing and sending the weekly newsletters to keep our members updated about our events!
My favourite part of being president this year was working with such a dedicated, hard working and cooperative team who were all as passionate about MADSOC as me.
To be president you should be: friendly, approachable. hard working, organised, creative and most of all PASSIONATE about dance.
VICE PRESIDENT - Stefanie Valakas
My role is overall quite supportive not only for the president but also to other executives. I also took on the role of managing and contributing to the online and social media presence of MADSOC, alongside the media and marketing executive.
The exec have worked so cohesively this year to bring together another huge year for MADSOC!
MADSOC is such an all-inclusive society that has defined my university experience, and I loved helping it enrich the university experience for our members too.
SECRETARY - Arabella Raupach
My main role as secretary is to make sure the society is on track. This includes registration and correspondence with C&S, keeping up membership and email lists and taking minutes at our meetings. It’s not all paperwork though, I also supervise classes each week, help with organising events and respond to email enquiries. Future secretaries only need two things - organisation and a love for dance - so if you are good at juggling your time and want to give back to the society we all know and love then being the next MADSOC secretary is your calling!
treasurer - Bec Clare
My role as Treasurer involves managing and tracking the clubs finances, budgeting for the incredibly huge year that we always put on and ensuring we get funding so that we can give free things to our members at events!!
This all may sound very scary and like a lot of responsibility but as long as you are organized and diligent then you will be just fine as future Treaz.
One thing that has made it so easy for me this year is the help I've had from the amazing exec team whether I've had to delegate a chunk of work onto one of the general execs because I was too busy or if I needed someone to just sit with me while I thought aloud, they've supported me.
If you enjoy the power of the cash moneyz and you are an organized person and love Madsoc then you should definitely think about being Treasurer, it's so much more rewarding than you could imagine.
EVENTS COORDINATOR - Georgia Britt
I had an absolute blast this year as Events Coordinator, it is such a rewarding role. It was such a privilege to be able to give back to the society by organising the parties and performances, and by facilitating members meeting each other and having fun, united by the love of dance.
If you're someone that loves the society, loves to meet people, enjoys organising a good time for other people and just generally a mushroom (a fun-gi…a fun guy….I regret nothing) then have a think about EC.
It's just a really great way to meet people in the society and from other societies, while feeling like you're making an impact on campus at the same time.
class coordinator - Josh Chee
The Movement and Dance Society does perhaps one of the most ridiculous bargains you might be able to find anywhere in Sydney. For your Access Card number and a criminally low $5 joining fee, you will have year-long access to a wonderful plethora of dance classes in many, many styles, taught by a passionate group of volunteer teachers. This is arguably one of the biggest draw-cards of perhaps one of the most heavily subscribed and involved non-faculty societies on campus.
My job as Class Coordinator, is to bring this exciting enterprise together. At the beginning of semester I recruit the most passionate and exciting teachers I can find, in as many styles as can be brought to the society (This year we had up to 14 classes a week). It’s my job to make sure that all the teachers are looked after and have the best time and do the best job they can in their classes. We work together to organise the absolute mess that is the class timetable (both their personal ones and the society’s), to get them awesome rooms for teaching. Communication is also a big thing, from monitoring class attendances, making sure teachers are prepared and on time, and making preparations for the end of year showcase.
The society has been provided a fantastic set of resources by both the University of Sydney and The University of Sydney Union, which allows us to put on all our events, classes and rehearsals. As Class Coordinator, I am responsible for working with these offices in providing venue bookings, which can be quite a handful between 14 weekly classes and a whole bunch of different show rehearsals!
I highly recommend this challenging but extremely rewarding role. MADSOC classes were a massive part of my development as a dancer, and now I’m really happy to have been able to give back to this incredible bit of student culture.
MEDIA AND MARKETING OFFICER - Zaina Ahmed
If MADSOC's got something on, it's my job to make sure people know about it! As Media and Marketing Officer it's my job to make sure all events and classes are covered and promoted. I also manage the Facebook page, our Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube page.
I've had so much fun in this role as you can really make what you want of it. I also get to be creative and meet so many other talented photographers, graphic designers, and- of course- dancers.
Since joining MADSOC in my first year and being in this position for two, I've met so many great people and made some wonderful friends. It's sad to let the title go but MADSOC will always be a part of my uni life from now on!
GENERAL EXECUTIVE - Mary Saldevar
I am utterly proud to have been an executive in the greatest club on campus. Through my position, I am able to contribute in all areas of MADSOC life including admin, promotion, event/class coordination, member management, external relations and just general fun times. It is a great opportunity to learn and work in a team of passionate and talented individuals.
If you are quick on your feet (not just dance wise!- although it helps), willing to help, passionate and energetic, then this is the best position for you!
general executive - Alysha Harrold
My role as general exec is to basically lend a hand to the exec team, so involves a bit of everything! From supervising weekly classes to editing the class videos, and helping out at all of the fun MADSOC events in-between. So if you want to give back to this society but can’t quite pin down just one position (or don’t want to play favourites 😛) general exec is definitely the one for you!
Words cannot describe how lucky I feel to have been a part of this year’s MADSOC exec team. It has been a privilege to work along-side such an amazing and dedicated team to help spread the MADSOC passion for everything dance.
