Our 2023 Team
Meet your 2023 executive team members:
AMY BURKE - President
bachelor of SCIENCE/ADVANCED STUDIES HONOURS -IV
Amy, our wonderful, amazing, gorgeous and fabulous president works tirelessly to keep this society running! Our dearest SLAYMY has been dancing ever since she was 2 and was so comfortable under the spotlight that she fell asleep on stage at her first ever concert. Of course this led to her being an amazing performer and being the national champion of level 9 rhythmic gymnastics AND the NSW levels elite athlete of the year!! Our pocket nerd/ gamer gal has been girlbossing since a young age and was able to finesse the good pokemon cards in year 2 in exchange for her bad ones with her spectacular negotiation skills! Amy has fostered all her skills to start a competitive dance team this year so keep an eye out for them since they are ready to slay. If you ever see her around, don't forget to ask her to show you her party trick (it involves missing knuckles and it blew my mind when I saw it).
ALYSSA CHIA - Vice President
BACHELOR OF APPLIED SCIENCE (OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY)-III
Alyssa, who is our gorgeous Vice president is a jack of all trades in dance SLAY. Her favourite style is tap followed by jazz, musical theatre and contemporary, she’s going to conquer hip hop next just you wait. Her favourite animal is the red panda and shes a massive fan of reading. Her role basically follows the role of our president Ms Amy so Alyssa and Amy basically slay leadership together and are responsible for everything amazing within this society!
Lastly she is obsessed with sour fruit yumm and is a kiwi girl at heart ps. We all have a formal invitation to NZ.
VANESSA RYAN - Secretary
Bachelor of LAW AND BACHELOR OF ARTS (MEDIA STUDIES)-II
Vanessa, our wonderful and stunning secretary, has been dancing since she was 7. She absolutely slays contemporary and tap, and basically every other style too. She would like to be Sean Lew when she’s older, which is totally possible. Her favourite things include the beach, quokkas, and the notes app - she wouldn’t be an organised girlie without it. And if she could see one artist in her life, it would be Labrinth. Hands down.
Finally, go check out her weekly contemporary classes on Thursdays, Semester 1! You wouldn’t want to miss it :)
MINH DAO - Treasurer
Bachelor of COMMERCE/ADVANCED STUDIES (FINANCE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL STUDIES)-II
If money makes the world go round, you could possibly say that our world revolves around our amazing Treasurer, MINH! Although she is our resident ‘psychopath’ for listening to Lana del Rey and Phoebe Bridgers whilst on the leg press, Minh is an absolute bundle of joy and we love her anyways. 90% of her BeReals end up being her at the gym, reading a book, or at a concert (see @minh__dao on Instagram for photographic evidence). Even though she’s a contemporary/lyrical girlie at heart, Minh is incredibly versatile and you will see her dancing ALL STYLES in our Production this year! And of course, you won’t want to miss her choreographic debut for MADSOC as well ;)
AMELIA BYRNE - Media and Marketing Officer
Bachelor of Science (Medical Science)-III
Amelia Byrne is our incredible Media and Marketing Officer! She works tirelessly to create amazing content for our promo and socials while also studying a Bachelor of Science (Medical Science) There isn't anything she can’t do! She started dancing when she was three years old, training in Cecchetti and RAD. She is an avid Taylor Swift lover, her favourite no-skip album being ‘1989’. If you need a friend to come see some live music with you, Amelia is your girl. She loves anything cello, jazz, pop, etc. One interesting fact about Amelia is that she hates lychees!! Despite this, we still love and accept her. Amelia is amazing at what she does and we are so excited to see all her amazing creations this year.
jESS HAN - Event Coordinator
Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine - III
The ‘e’ in Jess stands for EVENTS! We are so lucky to have the multi-talented Jess as our events coordinator this year. Following an early career in ballet and rhythmic gymnastics, Jess found her love for contemporary at uni, which falls hand-in-hand with her love of Adele! As a self-proclaimed coffee addict (flat white, one sugar) and dessert girly, Jess is sure to make this year’s events super energetic and sweet :) Look out for the odd adventure too, as Jess is on the lookout for an adrenaline-junkie swim with sharks and skydiving!
Alicia Yap - Performance Coordinator
Bachelor of Design in Architecture - II
Alicia, our stunning performance coordinator, is a queen of many talents. Starting rhythmic gymnastics at age 5 and now captivating the stage with her gorgeous lyrical/contemporary style. She has the utmost experience with live shows and will go to watch absolutely anything and everything so she knows what makes a good performance! Her favourite, of course is 5SOS - fitting, because ‘she looks to perfect’ when she takes the stage. When she’s not reading, you may catch her admiring some adorable meerkats and capybaras with an iced oat latte in hand (no lactose for this girl!).
Caitlan Loh - Class Coordinator
Bachelor of Psychology - II
Caitlan our amazing Class Coordinator, started dancing when she was 11 years old and is a lover of Jazz and Acro! She’s also got crazy air time when she's thrown in the air doing tricks! She's also the queen of sudoku and is a puzzler (challenges welcomed). Caitlan also slays in baking and likes to bake for others! And by the way.. Her cookies are on another level than the subway and are MUAH.
Arame Nicolls - production liaison officer
Bachelor of Education (primary) III
The “HURRICANE*” herself, Arame is our production liaison officer this year!! (*please see our 2022 production Purgatory Finale video on youtube for reference). Arame started dancing when she was younger but was primarily a basketball player until in her own words she “discovered that dance was way better” (sorry not sorry to the Syndey Uni Basketball Club). Dance is so superior that she can’t even choose a favourite style. You will never fail to spot her as our tall queen and she is always seen with a friendly smile!! Fun fact about her is that she hates coconut with a passion.
ELYSSA HADDAD - General Executive
Bachelor of science (medical science) - ii
Elyssa, one of our amazing General Executives, is the Queen of Groove. Although she started in Jazz classes at 7 years old, Elyssa later found her passion in Hip Hop (which she is SERIOUSLY good at!!). She also crushes Commercial, Jazz Funk and Heels with her strong rhythm and swaggy style. From the studio to Spotify, Elyssa loves anything RnB, Afrobeats, Reggaeton or Hip Hop. Not only a dancer, Elyssa is also into sports, especially basketball, volleyball and badminton. Elyssa has lived outside Australia for almost all her life, including in Thailand, Indonesia and the UAE. We’re so happy she’s decided to spend university in Australia and share her talents with us before her next international adventure!
Ellie Truong - General Executive
Bachelor of Science (Nutrition Science) - II
Ellie, one of our general executives, is our bright ball of sunshine ☀️Starting out with hiphop and jazz, experimentation has led Ellie to fall in love with contemporary at Uni. Her dance progression has excelled astronomically because of her technique developed through 6 years of Kung Fu! MADSOC has been Ellie’s chance to get back into dance and gateway to trying various styles. Studying nutrition science does not stop her from enjoying bubble tea 🧋and ice cream 🍦. Though controversial in flavour, Ellie loves mint choc.. If you disagree, be warned as Ellie slays at martial arts.
